Technique Levels

The earliest introduction to classical structure.

Dancers build musicality, listening skills, and the very first vocabulary of ballet — how to stand, how to move with intention, how to follow a combination from start to finish.

Curriculum Focus

  • Basic body alignment and posture awareness
  • Introduction to the five positions of the feet
  • Simple rhythmic and musicality exercises
  • Foundational classroom discipline and etiquette

Structure sharpens.

Dancers begin working with more consistency at the barre and start to understand ballet as a discipline, not just a series of movements.

Curriculum Focus

  • Expanded positions of the feet and arms (port de bras I–II)
  • Simple barre combinations at a slow tempo
  • Continued musicality and counting development
  • Early spatial awareness in center work
THE METHOD STUDIOBook a Trial Class

The formal technical foundation begins here.

Alignment, turnout, and épaulement become the non-negotiable fundamentals every level after this one is built on.

Curriculum Focus

  • Full barre progression — pliés, tendus, dégagés
  • Correct alignment and turnout development
  • Introduction to épaulement and port de bras III
  • Simple center combinations, no traveling steps yet

Center work expands.

Dancers begin connecting barre technique to movement across the floor, and musical phrasing becomes part of every combination.

Curriculum Focus

  • Expanded barre — rond de jambe, fondu, frappé
  • Introductory center adagio
  • Petit allegro basics (temps levé, changement, échappé)
  • Continued turnout, plié depth, and foot articulation
THE METHOD STUDIOBook a Trial Class

The bridge between foundational and pre-pointe technique.

Combinations grow longer and more demanding, and dancers are held to a higher standard of consistency and control. Trains alongside Ballet II, with technical expectations placed at the Ballet III standard.

Curriculum Focus

  • Increased barre and center combination complexity
  • Traveling allegro across the floor
  • Pirouette preparation (relevé passé, single spot work)
  • Strength and conditioning to prepare the body for pointe

Pointe work begins — on a readiness basis, not automatically by age.

This is a pivotal level. Dancers who are cleared for pointe are marked with a skirt to reflect that milestone.

Curriculum Focus

  • Pointe work introduced (individual readiness assessment required)
  • Pirouette development, single pirouettes en dehors/en dedans
  • Sustained adagio and line control
  • Increased allegro complexity and jump technique

Technical range expands significantly.

Dancers work toward advanced pointe vocabulary, more demanding turning sequences, and the beginning of true performance polish.

Curriculum Focus

  • Advanced pointe combinations
  • Multiple pirouettes, advanced turning sequences
  • Grand allegro introduction (jetés, grand pas de chat)
  • Variation study begins

THE METHOD's highest standard technique class.

Dancers here are trained with full conservatory expectations — polish, artistry, and consistency at a pre-professional level.

  • Full-length variation study and performance quality
  • Audition- and company-prep level polish
